Nehru says that Afghans after being settled in India were Indianised. He is rather a philosopher of history, and his aim is to make constructive suggestions on the basis of historical knowledge. Nehru is not an academic historian, and his aim is not to narrate the facts of history with meticulous care. It is only a general introduction meant for the general reader. It can be understood and appreciated as an introduction to the cultural history of India, as a study of the various phases in the gradual development of the national mind from the early dawn of civilization to the feverish, twentieth century when British India stood at the threshold of liberty and light. We get all the bits and pieces of history of the country and this is a must read for all the Indians. This is best section of the book in my view. The dawn of the national movement, and what better way to learn about it than through the words of the man who along with Gandhi trembled the colonial rule. The path takes through the times when the British came as traders to India and later went to build a colonial empire. And the lives of Babar, Akbar, the Marathas, all flash before our eyes, as we are led to the colonial times of the British rule, with all the minute details. Through the Arabs, the Mongols we come to the golden time of the Mughal Empire. That is the fact that even though the religion was started in India, the larger part of Buddhism in India merged with Hinduism the book gives a detailed picture of the times. Then there is the answer to the most perplexing question of Buddhism in India. The dawn of the medieval period and the golden era of the Gupta dynasty give a good insight of India’s foreign relationships with the people of Iran, Greece. The epics, the Mahabharata, the Bhagavad-Gita, Buddha, Ashoka and through all the people, the books and the contemporary records of the time, we get a complete picture of India through the ages. The Indus valley civilization, the coming of the Aryans, Hinduism, caste system, the continuity of the great Indian culture, name it and it is in the book. The whole written and unwritten history of India is given in the book.

I'm no artist, but it leaves me feeling accomplished. Some pics under spoiler cut to save space:Īnd plenty scenes and critters I'm yet to attempt ) Coloured pencils add a different layer but perhaps mine are too cheap as it can be hard work getting the colours to take and they don't offer the blending I'd like. Pages are hardy and I'm finding felt-tips work best, bringing vibrant colour while not bleeding into the next page. When your focus is narrowed to which colour will look prettiest and why there's only so many greens available among your chosen pencils then the things that bother you can sometimes be left outside the printed lines. It appeals to my love of creativity without being too taxing. It'll take me forever to complete but that's part of the point, something you can loose yourself to with some music or audio playing. There's an added hunt through the pages giving the book a sort of story. The level of detail here makes these different, the images are pleasing and enchant, several I'd be happy to have on a wall. Most of these adult-colouring-books bemuse me, many appear to me to be overpriced doodles that most people could manage. Strange to rate a colouring book but the art in this is exquisite, a mix of highly detailed to fairly simple with plenty of room for expression while colouring or adding details. I felt like this picture was too plain so I added a Harry Potter quote. 'Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.' -Albus Dumbledore This is my first project I've done since starting college and it was such a nice de-stresser. This was just so much fun and the color schemes make my eyes happy.:D This was a lot of fun to color after taking a long break. I'm so proud of this because it took me forever to do! This is probably one of my favorite pieces so far and I love the concept of just using pinks and blue tones as the basis for the piece. It took me a while to do this one because I was so busy, but I'm definitely going to take time when I feel stressed to do this while I watch a movie or TV. I messed up a little bit on one of the color patterns, but I really like the design the more I look at it. I used fine, fine tip Sharpies and Crayola color pencils. This image took me about four days to color. The end result or even just completing small portions of the page makes me truly happy to see that I've participated in bringing a simple image to life. I've started my journey into adult coloring and so far have discovered that it's a relaxing process.
